Homosexuality and the Christian

Mark A Yarhouse, PsyD has written an excellent book dealing with the topic of Homosexuality and the Christian. I went into the book wondering how he was going to address the arguments that you find commonly debated when dealing with Homosexuality and the Christian perspective. I was pleasantly surprised and really found the book an excellent resource. I found the chapter on sexual identity interesting while giving a clear understanding of the different types of sexual desires as he outlined biblical perspective and responsibility without repeating the scriptures that are typically used. I found the book to be a non-threatening book on this sensitive topic, for people on both sides of the issue. I would highly recommend this book and I believe that if you are in church ministry this would be a wonderful resource as it steers people away from the typical debates and gives a clear understanding of how to progress where our society is presently at. I would give this book 4 stars. I received this book for purpose of review from Bethany House Publishers.

Mighty Acts of Creation

Wow....what a great resource. As a mom to four children, I am always looking for ways to educate my children about the things of God. I have just finished,
God's Mighty Acts in Creation, by Starr Meade, and I am impressed. The devotional reads as if you are listening to your favorite Sunday School teacher
telling the many interesting and wonderful Bible stories from both the Old and New Testament. I received this book for purpose of review
from www.crossways.org/blog. This devotional is taken from a Creationist viewpoint and is a wonderful way to teach your children interesting facts of each of
the days of creation. At the end of each day there is a section called, as for me and my house, that encourages discussion for your family or class.
I would recommend this book and I give it 5 stars.

The How and Why of Nature Study

Every week we do Nature Study, this in and of itself has been one of the most challenging subjects for our homeschooling. The topic is not difficult, and yet I really never 'studied' the world around me before. I understand that in order to encourage our children's natural curiosity of the world around us I need to have them participate in exploring and studying the earth. The weeks just seem so packed, we have math and science and of course the reading lists and everything else that we are doing...and I think that many a time I could convince myself that we were 'learning' about these topics in our books.

So lots of times there have been missed opportunities, and weeks gone by without the 'nature walk' and yet I continue to be drawn back to this aspect of schooling time and again.

So this year we are purposing to go out..rain or shine, and explore God's Creation...and every time we do something special happens. The week seems to slow down, the smiles come out and eyes sparkle. So, I ask myself...how could I miss this?

I have found a few resources that are amazing for nature study...you can go HERE to do the outdoor challenge each week. My best resource for Nature study has to be THIS book from Anna Botsford Comstock: A Handbook Of Nature Study. Enjoy!

Good Morning

Welcome to school this week. We had a great time yesterday at co-op...we did some baking and phys-ed. The grade one class had a visit from one of our community helpers, a wonderful Doctor that happens to be a home school mama too! We have lots of fun activities this week!

Enjoy your day today and don't forget to be memorizing your scripture passage, next week we will begin narrations, as you are writing it out this week I need you do do at least 6 verses per day in your copy work.

Well this certainly is an interesting chapter....we start today at page 61 and you are going to read through to page 75.

This chapter talks about the crazy details of King Henry's life, and the casual way he treated marriage.

I think it will be an interesting narration today!

Nature Lesson Week 5

Along with our nature walk today I would like you to read Parables From Nature, by Mrs. Alfred Gatty, read A Lesson of Faith pg. 5. As we are walking today, I would like you to narrate the story for me, so try and remember the story as written, and look deeper into the meaning of the parable and how it may apply to your life.

We are also going to be studying some of the birds that we see today at the conservation area. I would like you to read chapter chapter 33 (A Royal Dresser and A Late Nester) in the Burgess Bird Book for Children, by Thornton W. Burgess.

The Handbook of Nature Study, by Anna Botsford Comstock, tells us some amazing things about nature and our environment. I would like you to start reading at page 130 about geese. We are going to continue reading until the questions and observations page. Read through the observations and as we are out for our nature walk we can see if we are able to catch a glimpse at a Canada Goose. In your nature journal answer questions 1 and 3.

Thinking Like A Christian: Chapter 5 discussion

Today as you were reading, Thinking Like A Christian, by David Noebel, the Summary for chapter 5 details how Christanity with an emphasis on the spiritual and a clear understanding of man's fallen condition (Romans 1-2) can really address the concerns of the individual. Please think through this worldview and then come and discuss with me the difference between the humanistic worldview of blaming individual moral failings on society or the environment, and the Christian worldview that we hold.

Artist Study: Albrecht Durer

Today we are going to take a quick look at one of the Artists that we are studying. Take a special look at the shadow that is cast from the form of the bunny as that is what you will be painting today. Also do you notice his unique signature? Use the pattern that he is using to make your own rendition...you can use your sketch book for this. Be sure to show me!

I would like you to take special note of where he was born, as you will be showing me when we do our map drills.

Here are some interesting facts about Albrecht Durer.

The central figure in the German Renaissance was Albrecht Dürer, a painter and graphic artist, one of the most outstanding personalities in the history of art.

Albrecht Dürer was born on 21 May, 1471 in Nuremberg, south Germany, son of a prosperous goldsmith Albrecht Dürer the Elder (1427-1502), and Barbara Holper. His early training was in drawing, woodcutting and printing, which were to remain his main and favorite media throughout his artistic career. 1486 through 1489 he was apprenticed in the workshop of Nuremberg artist Michael Wolgemut.

He traveled much. In 1490 he left his native city for four years, probably initially visiting Cologne and possibly the Netherlands. He traveled to Italy twice in 1494-95 and 1505-07, visited Venice and Bologna, perhaps Florence and Rome.

Welcome To Educating with Integrity

Welcome to school today.

As you can see I was busy last night...I had been on a blog post from a sweet mom who described a blog that she created to keep track of the children's assignments and lesson plans. I had a great sense that this would be revolutionary for our home school. Of course this meant coming up with a name for our school, and those who know us will notice the similarity to our home building business name. I was thinking of different names, but I kept on coming back to the purpose we home school our children. We would like to provide our family with an education that instills a deep understanding of integrity.

Integrity can be defined as a consistency of ones actions, or the quality of having an intuitive sense of honesty and truthfulness in regard for the motivation of ones actions.

This is what we desire, we want our children to have every opportunity in their formative years to be in an environment that encourages a consistent teaching of the Bible with a firm understanding of how we should act everyday. More importantly we desire to give our children an education that teaches them how to act in the defining moments of their lives.

We believe this requires an education in integrity, in a caring home learning environment. As our children grow and start lives of their own, as they travel through each circumstance, our prayer is that they will choose to act in a Biblical manner. So, I think the name is appropriate, but the motto is my favorite...educating with Integrity...because that is our desire.

Hello little one....I can't believe that you are starting grade one. It seems like yesterday that I was bringing you home from the hospital. We are going to have such a great year together, learning how to read, and doing lots of fun experiments. We will have lots of time together to read our books on the couch and snuggle up with a blanket. I can't wait!

Grade Ten. I can't believe it! You are not supposed to grow up this fast. I am looking forward to this year, probably more than you right now...after all it is school!I am sure that you are looking forward to one thing about your education.....drivers ed. And that's another thing....where did the time go? Well, back to school stuff...this is going to be a good year, the reading lists are quite detailed but I know that you can do it. Math should go well for you as you really are doing great in it now. It is a lot of work but I know that you will do it well.
